About Me
The largest portion of my background is in working with families and youth. I have a Master’s Degree in Psychology, and have been in and out of the field since 1992. In that time, I have worked at Burwell alternative school as a support teacher, for Tanner at Willowbrooke, Morningstar Family Resources, Phoenix Resource Center & Family Intervention Specialists as a Parent Educator, Clinical Therapist, Community Support Specialist & Clinical Assessor, I have been a social services Professional Trainer on HIPAA, confidentiality, case management & ethics for Pathways Community Network of GA, a Mentor Coordinator for the Carrollton, GA Housing Authority under the youth initiative grant & I have worked as a Crisis Counselor for battered women in Fayette County, GA. For the past 12 years, I have also been a freelance professional, managing small businesses, events and membership associations. For 3 years, I worked as a university Academic Advisor, an academic Program Coordinator for a 2 year college, taught part time concurrently at a private high school and at a 2 year college, teaching student success, intro Psychology and personal relationships courses to upper level high school students, and to at risk and first generation college freshmen. In addition, for almost 2 years, I was the recent personal assistant/business manager to an internationally renowned professional sculpture artist Gordon Chandler. Most recently I was the Director of Enrollment & Communication for the College of Education at the University of West Georgia. There, I was in charge of events, social media, web site, newsletters, advertising, online and print marketing material, communications, public relations, outreach & recruiting, as well as student, alumni & faculty relations.
Finally, for the past 6 years, I have been working with 1 primary freelance client. I currently manage the 800+ member, state chapter of an international in-house, corporate lawyer membership association.
Both my Bachelor of Arts & Master of Arts degrees are in Psychology from the University of West Georgia. As a graduate student in an Existential/Humanistic/Transpersonally based program, I took the research track of my program as opposed to the clinical track, where my interests primarily concentrated on Spiritual & Mindful Parenting (also called Conscious Parenting), Attachment, Spirituality, Integrative Health & Resilience.
In addition, I am currently a post graduate student at the University of West Georgia, where I am working toward an Education Specialist degree (EdS) in Professional Community Counseling & Supervision, as well as a Certificate in Integrative Health Studies. I am LPC and NCC eligible in the State of Georgia. My anticipated graduation date with my Ed.S is December 2013.
I am also a single mom to 3 teenage daughters, but in my spare time, I very much enjoy cooking, watching independent movies, listening to music, going to concerts & outdoor music & art festivals, reading & learning, crafting, light gardening, complimentary & alternative health, going on adventures, traveling, being creative, yoga, meditation, Psychology & Philosophy & other nerdy pursuits, being active in my community & my professional field, & spending time with friends and family.
