*Performing artists and friends hosting a musical event in support of Marianne McLelland Hudson, diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia earlier this year. Hudson and her family are long-time residents of Sharpsburg. Atlanta-area musicians will perform, and all proceeds will go to Hudson and her family to help offset the costs of her medical bills and travel expenses. The fund-raiser will be Sat., Feb. 21 at 7 p.m. at The Purple Possum, 10 The Boulevard, Suite 101, Hwy. 29, Newnan. Tickets are $10 minimum cover charge donation. Call 404-234-2101.

8th-grade teacher to get transplant

A Whitewater Middle School teacher who has leukemia will receive a life-saving bone marrow transplant next month in Texas.

Marianne McLelland Hudson, an eighth-grade reading teacher, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in February.

Hudson will receive bone marrow Sept. 6 from a donor found on the National Bone Marrow Registry who is considered a perfect match, Whitewater principal Sandra Kidd said.

Two bone marrow matches have been found for a Whitewater Middle School teacher who needs a transplant to live.

Marianne McLelland Hudson, an eighth-grade reading teacher, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in February. She is not expected to survive the disease without a transplant, said her sister, Laura McLelland Fuller.

A drive to get Fayette County residents on the National Bone Marrow Registry is today and Friday in honor of a teacher who needs a life-saving transplant.

Marianne McLelland Hudson, a Whitewater Middle School eighth-grade reading teacher, likely will die without a bone marrow transplant, according to her sister Laura McLelland Fuller. Hudson, a wife and mother of daughter Sydney, 2, was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukemia in February.

The event is from noon to 5 p.m.
